Tall Fuchsia Vase
Daum Nancy
Circa 1900

This monumental Daum Nancy vase is a masterwork of Art Nouveau glassmaking, created around the turn of the century. With its colorless base layered with blue and white powdering, the vase features intricate enamel-painted fuchsias in red and purple on delicate green plants, set within a blue-to-white landscape. This fuchsia design is one of Daum's most desirable motifs. Acid-etched details and delicate geometric gilded patterns bring a luminous quality to the vase which is both an artistic triumph and a rare example of Daum’s large-scale works, often crafted for international exhibitions and requiring months of meticulous work.

Founded by the Daum family in Nancy, France, this renowned glassmaking firm reached prominence during the Art Nouveau movement. They quickly developed their unique style, using labor-intensive techniques like multi-layered acid etching and hand carving. Their floral motifs, as seen in this vase, have become emblematic of Daum’s work, and their dedication to craft was recognized with the Grand Prix at the 1900 Exposition Universelle in Paris, solidifying their position as masters of glass artistry.
