This extraordinary four-piece silver coffee and tea service epitomizes the grandeur of George IV-era dining with a coffee pot, teapot, sugar bowl and creamer. The set represents a collaborative effort by Alexander Cameron, William Traves and Thomas Baker. Each features intricate floral repoussé designs and is adorned with a central scrolling cartouche medallion, engraved with the armorial of a fist and cross, accompanied by the motto Aude et Spera (Dare and Hope). The lavish gilded interiors and ornate motifs reflect the opulent traditions of late Georgian society.
The coffee pot, with its baluster form, features a swan’s-neck spout, domed circular foot and a hinged lid topped with a repoussé pineapple and flowerhead finial. A sturdy C-scroll handle with bone insulators completes its elegant design. The matching teapot, creamer and sugar bowl display ovoid bulbous forms and rest on foliate-chased scroll feet.
