Each sauceboat bears the coat of arms of Matthew Bell of Wolsingham, who was High Sheriff of Newcastle in 1735 and later elected Mayor in 1757. Telling of their historical importance, these sauceboats were exhibited at the San Antonio Museum of Art in 1997 and were once part of the iconic Red McCombs Collection, which has been widely publicized and studied. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e John Kircup was the son of successful silversmith James Kircup, who opened his own workshop in 1712 and was Warden of the Goldsmiths Company seventeen times before his death in 1753.
