This enchanting papier-maché tray by Henry Loveridge & Co. exhibits exceptional artistry and exquisite craftsmanship. Oval in shape, the elegant tray is beautifully hand-painted at its center to simulate the detailed grain of burr walnut. A border decorated in gold against black ground with bands of scrolls and foliage add sumptuous luxury to this rare piece.
Established in 1848, the British japanner Henry Loveridge & Co. of Wolverhamton is remembered today as one of the most successful japanned ware factories of its time. Today, antique works by this prestigious company are exceedingly rare, especially such well-crafted examples such as this.
