Silver-Gilt Chalice and Paten
Circa 1675

This rare silver-gilt chalice and paten are remarkable examples of 17th-century German silver. Crafted in Augsberg, Germany in a classical, elegant design, these items are the most important liturgical vessels, traditionally used during Catholic Mass to hold the sacramental wine and Eucharistic bread. Both the chalice and paten exhibit gilding in nearly perfect condition, and fit snugly into their original fitted embossed leather case. German silver from this time period is extremely rare. To find such beautifully preserved pieces, in their original case, is quite exceptional.

Chalice: 8 1/8” high
Paten: 5 3/4” diameter
Case: 9 3/8” high x 7" diameter
