Fairyland Lustre Plate
Wedgwood
Circa 1925

An enchanting scene rendered in brightly hued enamel adorns this captivating porcelain plate by Wedgwood. The Imps on a Bridge and Treehouse motif, part of the famed Fairyland Lustre series, features charming imps crossing a bridge while woodland creatures look on. The magical scene is beautifully rendered in vivid greens, rich blues and deep reds, and is enhanced by an iridescent luster that lends the scene a dreamlike sheen. The plate is attractively bordered by a golden tan that is lavishly decorated with a floral and foliate design.

The Fairyland Lustre series was the design of eccentric Wedgwood artist Daisy Makeig-Jones. First produced in 1915, the fantastical series, with its brilliant colors and charming creatures, was an immediate success. Works by Wedgwood featuring these enchanting scenes are still highly prized today.
